This wine features aromas of fresh strawberries and Red Delicious apples with accents of citrus and white flowers. The palate is crisp and refreshing, featuring luscious fruit flavors including bing cherries and kumquats, with a hint of hibiscus on the finish. This Rosé will be the perfect paring for a warm afternoon by the pool.
Vineyard Notes
100% Rio Vista Vineyard - Ken Brown has worked with this meticulously farmed vineyard for many years. Planted in the early 2000s, Rio Vista is located at the southeastern end of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. The slightly warmer microclimate results in luscious, ripe Pinot Noir. The dominant soils are limestone, sedimentary soils and a marine layer of sandy loam. This Rosé comes from Block 2, planted to the 115 clone.
Production Notes
Sta. Rita Hills experienced an unusually cold growing season in 2023. Heavy winter rains delayed budbreak significantly, and cool summer weather led to slow ripening and a later harvest. The Pinot Noir harvest stared in late September and continued well into October. The long hang time encouraged excellent flavor development, complexity and concentration. Grapes for this Rosé were picked on September 28th. We picked them at a low brix (20.6) to keep the alcohol low and the wine refreshing.
Winemaker Notes
Pinot Noir clusters for this wine were whole-bunch pressed then transferred to stainless steel barrels for fermentation and aging. Malo-lactic fermentation was blocked to keep the wine tasting as light and fresh as possible. It was bottled on April 10th, 2024.
